As we embark on the third season of the Restaurant Cricket League (RCL) in February 2025, we find ourselves at the intersection of sport, social responsibility, and sustainable development. The RCL, more than just a cricket league, has emerged as a powerful platform dedicated to addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time, including food security, hunger alleviation, and sustainable living-issues that resonate deeply with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One of the critical challenges we face globally is food insecurity. The UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) aims to create a world free of hunger by 2030. However, the statistics are stark: nearly 811 million people worldwide suffered from hunger in 2020, while 2.4 billion people lacked regular access to adequate food. Paradoxically, about one-third of the food produced for human consumption is wasted each year, amounting to 1.3 billion tons of food waste globally. This stark reality calls for immediate action and innovative solutions.
The RCL, since its inception in 2023, has committed itself to raising awareness around food security, reducing food waste, and facilitating the creation of food banks for the underprivileged. The first two editions of the league set the stage for a movement that encourages simple yet impactful changes in consumer habits. By promoting the reduction of food waste and ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for vulnerable populations, including infants, the RCL has made significant strides in advancing these critical objectives.
As we look ahead to the 2025 season, the RCL's mission has expanded, aligning itself with Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi Ji's vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a developed nation by 2047.

This year, RCL will not only continue its focus on food security but will also champion initiatives that promote health, wellness, fitness, and sustainable food practices across the country. The league is dedicated to supporting flagship programs such as the Khelo India Programme, FIT India Movement, Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, POSHAN Abhiyaan, Eat Right India Movement, and the Incredible India Campaign.
RCL 2025 stands as a beacon of hope, rallying the hospitality and tourism sectors to contribute meaningfully to India's development journey. Together, through sport and community action, we can build a future where every Indian has access to safe, healthy, and sustainable food, and where our nation emerges as a global superpower by 2047

The theme encapsulates the Restaurant Cricket League's mission to tackle food security, reduce waste, and promote wellness through the engaging platform of cricket. It highlights the importance of collective action and community-building, showcasing how sports can drive meaningful societal transformation.
By bringing together 16 states of India, RCL celebrates the country's rich cultural diversity, showcasing local cuisine, art, and heritage. This cultural celebration not only fosters unity among diverse communities but also enhances appreciation for India's vast traditions, ultimately working towards a healthier, more sustainable future for all while delivering a positive societal impact.
The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that approximately one-third of food produced for human consumption is wasted each year, resulting in 1.3 billion tons of food waste worldwide. On the other hand in 2020, nearly 811 million persons worldwide were suffering from hunger while a staggering 2.4 billion people, or above 30 per cent of the world's population, were moderately or severely food-insecure, lacking regular access to adequate food. The UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 is thus dedicated to creating a world free of hunger by 2030.
RCL believes that with a few simple changes in consumer habits, eaters can make significant reductions in food waste while ending hunger through ensuring access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round for the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants.
RCL is dedicated to bringing together stakeholders from the hospitality, tourism, sports, health & wellness communities from across the country through this charity cricket league to raise awareness on this humanitarian cause, facilitate the reduction of food waste & create RCL Food Banks - ensuring free access to safe, hygienic & adequate food for the needy sections of the society.
